FA MISSION STATEMENT
March, 1992

The overarching mission of the Foothill-De Anza Faculty Association is to create an outstanding work environment for all faculty that inspires academic and teaching excellence. To fulfill this mission, FA serves as the exclusive collective bargaining representative for all faculty* in matters pertaining to employment and professional relations, pursuant to California State law, the District Agreement, and FA's sense of professional responsibility.

Specifically, the top priority of FA is to maintain high morale through a program of salaries, benefits, work standards, conflict resolution and professional renewal that is among the best in the nation, one that attracts and rewards highly motivated teachers who know how to serve our diverse student population and the complex needs of our community. FA accomplishes this mission through several major activities:

1) Exercising strong leadership and advocacy for faculty professionalism at the state and local level;

2) Representing all faculty equally and formulating professional policies through a democratically elected Executive Council;

3) Developing and maintaining an Agreement with the District Board of Trustees that codifies the terms and conditions of employment;

4) Preserving morale through a conciliation/grievance process that resolves personnel problems quickly and fairly;

5) Staffing a full-time office that provides prompt, accurate information and professional service;

6) Keeping faculty thoroughly informed through public meetings and regular publication of quality newsletters and bulletins;

7) Participating broadly in District shared governance and working cooperatively with faculty, staff, management and students to sustain and enhance Foothill-De Anza's reputation as one of the finest community colleges in the nation.

* The term "faculty" designates all non-supervisory employees for whom minimum qualifications for hire have been adopted pursuant to state law. Faculty employees include, but are not limited to, instructors of credit and/or non credit classes, librarians, counselors, community college health professionals, physically limited student programs and services professionals, extended opportunity programs and services professionals, child development center/children's center faculty, faculty on special assignments, non credit (adult) education faculty, special adjunct faculty, coordinators, executive heads and division assistants. For a complete definition, see Article 1.2 of the Agreement.
