FA Committees

Faculty Association Committees

  • FA Elections — Responsible for assisting in developing a slate of candidates for annual spring elections for the FA Executive Council, staffing voting booths and counting ballots.
  • Part-Time — Responsible for surveying part-time faculty about concerns and developing consensus. Meets monthly to determine part-time needs and recommend specific proposals for contract negotiations.
  • Political Action — Responsible for advocating on behalf of the interests of FHDA faculty, supporting candidates and initiatives that advance those interests, and engaging faculty in political activities promoting those interests.
  • Retirement — Responsible for keeping faculty informed of changes in retirement laws and options for retirement. Meets as needed to provide information to the Executive Council and the negotiation team on
    retirement concerns.

College/District Committees

FA has the right to have representation, in a non-voting capacity, on the following college committees. The information gathered and the recommendations made at these meetings are very important since these groups often shape the direction of the District and the two colleges. One FA representative is needed to serve on each committee.

  • Chancellor’s Advisory Committee — Participatory governance group; advises and consults with the Chancellor on district-wide governance, institutional planning and budgeting, policies and procedures to promote the educational mission and goals of the FHDA CC District. FA President or designee attends.
  • De Anza Academic Senate — Participatory governance group; makes formal recommendations regarding academic and professional matters. FA liaison reports to FA Vice President on proceedings and problems areas.
  • De Anza Curriculum Committee — Responsible for curriculum matters, including the adoption of new courses and changes in courses and the educational program. Meets Tuesday from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Administrative Conference Room. FA representative reports to the FA Vice President on proceedings and problem areas.
  • De Anza Resource Allocation and Program Planning — Responsible for making recommendations concerning programs and resource allocation, including planning and evaluation processes. Meets on Tuesdays from 10:00-11:25 a.m.
  • Foothill Academic Senate — Participatory governance group; makes formal recommendations regarding academic and professional matters. FA liaison reports to FA Vice President on proceedings and problems areas.
  • Foothill Curriculum Committee — Responsible for curriculum development and approval of courses, programs, and grading policies. Meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. FA representative reports to the FA Vice President on proceedings and problem areas.
  • Foothill Mission Informed Planning Council — Participatory governance group charged with overarching institutional planning. Meets 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at 1:30 p.m. FA representative reports to FA staff on proceedings, problem areas, and recommendations for change.
  • Foothill Travel and Conference Fund Committee — Responsible for reviewing and awarding monies to faculty for professional conferences or seminars. Meets as needed. FA representative reports to the FA Vice President on proceedings, problem areas, and recommendations for change.
  • Professional Development Leave Committee — Responsible for determining eligibility for a professional development leave (PDL), reviewing applications, contacting faculty for clarification as needed, and recommending approval of applications to the Board of Trustees; also responsible for reviewing completed PDL reports and requests for Training/Retraining funds. Meets throughout the year at both campuses as needed, depending on the number of applicants. FA representatives report to the FA Vice President/Chief Negotiator on proceedings, problem areas, and recommendations for change.
