The FA-PAC and FA-PAC Internship Program focused on two campaigns this election season: Forest Peterson for FHDA Board of Trustees and Patrick Ahrens for State Assembly. Unfortunately, Forest Peterson did not win a seat on the Board, but he did run a strong campaign. We’re proud of you Forest! Thankfully, Patrick Ahrens won a seat in the State Assembly and will be sworn-in on December 2. Congratulations, Patrick. We’ll see you in Sacramento!
Intern Reflections
Thanks to the candidates and FA-PAC interns for all their hard work on the campaigns, which provided invaluable experiences as revealed by intern reflections.
My name is Shaur Kadiyala, and I’m a political science and philosophy major at Foothill. Through FA-PAC, I was given the opportunity to work on Dr. Forest Peterson’s campaign in a director/coordinator role. My work ranged from door knocking to supporting various volunteers in any of their tasks, pushing out announcements, or any other work the campaign needed to keep going. Working on the campaign gave me the chance to experience real-world political work, taught me directly about community organizing, advocacy, leadership, and coordination.
My name is Khadijah Abdalla and I’m a second-year Political Science major. As an intern with FA-PAC, I was given the opportunity to volunteer with the Dr. Forest Peterson campaign, where I focused on coordination. I was tasked with developing data lists based on voter activity to send out to specialists who could target voters. Furthermore, I engaged in local outreach, ensuring team members were capable of completing their assigned responsibilities, and offering assistance when needed. I was able to glimpse the intricate work needed for political organizing which has enhanced my understanding of my studies by applying real-world experiences to what I learn. Through my experience, I am confident that I can succeed in my educational pursuits, aided by the skills I have gained such as communication, time management, and coordinating both my actions and the involvement of others.
My name is Gillian Grubb, I’m a political science student at De Anza and because of FA-PAC I had the privilege of working on the Patrick Ahrens campaign for the last few months. It allowed me to get an in-depth look at how elections are truly run and also let me be a leader in it. Whether it was door-knocking, phone banking, or just dealing with daily problems I was able to be the most politically engaged I have ever and get key insights into what will hopefully be my future career fi eld.
